TIME RAVAGES ON

Time has changed from whence
fearlessness once reigned.
Precarious footholds attained treetops;
superheroic leaps landed softly;
and nothing impeded the aura of
invincible self.
No more.

Time oft takes its toll;
courage abandoned.
Imagined injuries taunt the psyche;
visions of invulnerability
replaced by spectres of casts and crutches.
Leaps of faith, cliché
no more

Time imperiled pride.
Unleashed glimpses spy
youthful exuberance locked up tightly.
Periodic brilliance soon betrays;
confidence briefly to the rafters raised,
where the lion roars
no more.

And this from a man who claims he doesn't get poetry... not only is it technically perfect - 5,5,10,10,10,5,2... yes, I counted - but it is brilliantly crafted.

When you choose to write, you don't fool around. What else is in there waiting?
